Lost in Haryana rape debate, a girl’s story

For the first 10 days after she was savagely assaulted and raped by eight men, 16-year-old Reshma (name changed) shuttered up her heart and mind, hoping silence would kill her memories of the violence, wrenching physical pain and the waves of shame, anger and fear.

The men had threatened to circulate photographs of their crime if she complained, and sworn to kill her family.

Now, everyone knows Reshma and her story — and is telling it their particular way. Dalit groups have camped outside her home, using her case to illustrate caste iniquity and violence in Haryana.


Huge Blow To Haryana Govt. Six-year-old gang raped in Gurgaon

‘Infamous’ for the lack of safety of women, the most developed town of the state witnessed another rape incident on Thursday.

This time a six-year old girl was allegedly gang raped at Laxman Vihar in the Sector-5 here.
Police have sent the victim for medical examination. Police have not made any arrest so far in connection with the heinous crime.

6-year-old lured with chocolate and raped in Gurgaon; 19th rape in Haryana in a month

A six-year-old became a tragic statistic when she was raped by three men in Haryana’s posh Gurgaon, a Delhi suburb, on Thursday. The child was allegedly lured with a chocolate to a secluded place in Gurgaon West and raped. This is the 19th rape reported in Haryana in just one month.

Of the three men suspected of having raped the child, one has been arrested and two are absconding, the police said.


Dabra gangrape: Girl’s father killed self after seeing MMS

The minor Dalit girl, who was allegedly gang-raped in Dabra village of Hisar, on Thursday claimed that her father had committed suicide after a villager showed him the MMS clip in which the brutal act was recorded.

One of the rapists shot the whole incident on his cellphone and had deleted it before his arrest, police said. Now the police have sent the mobile phones of accused to Madhuban laboratory for recovering the MMS.


Om Parkash Chautala takes u-turn on Khap Panchayats’ idea of reducing marriageable age

After supporting the idea of Khap Panchayats to reduce the marriageable age of boys and girls to 16 years to curb incidents of sexual assault, former Haryana chief minister Om Parkash Chautala today took a u-turn, denying that he or his party supported the idea.

“If some Khap or individual has made suggestion about girl’s marriageable age, then it is up to the government to accept it or not. Anybody can give suggestion…but my support to it (Khap Panchayat suggestion) has been attacked.


2 youths held for gangrape in Kanpur dehat

Uttar Pradesh police has arrested two youths who, along with one another sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl in Rasulabad area of Kanpur Dehat district on Tuesday.

Police sources here today said that three youths took the girl to a nearby agriculture field in Tulsinagar district and assaulted her.


Man murders wife for visiting ex-husband, kids

man battered to death his 40-year-old wife and then hid her body under the bed in their rented accommodation in Kota’s Maqbara area on Sunday. However, the incident came to light only on Wednesday night when the accused himself came to the police station and confessed.


Seven-year-old raped in Gurgaon

A seven-year-old girl was raped and abused on Thursday by her juvenileneighbour here, police said.

A case of abducton and rape was registered against the 17-year-old accused at Sector-5 police station.


11-year-old girl raped and killed

An eleven-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed in Assam’s Hailakandi district, police said today.

The girl, a resident of Lalachora tea estate of the district, was attacked when she was on her way to her aunt’s place yesterday. Her body was found today, police said.
