Rohtak girl raped, accused held

The spate of rapes continues in Haryana. A minor girl was raped by a youth after she was lured by three women relatives of the victim in Kachchi Garhi Mohalla colony of Rohtak on Monday.

After the victim and her mother complained to the police on Tuesday, three persons, including the rapist identified as Binder and two other women — Geeta, the aunt and Monu, the paternal aunt of the victim, were arrested.

Elderly teacher killed at home in north Delhi

A 62-year-old school teacher, due to retire in November, was found strangled to death at her residence in north Delhi on Tuesday. The victim, Madhu Mehra, lived alone in a government accommodation in Timarpur, north Delhi, after her husband and son died in accidents several years ago.

Police said Mehra was found with her feet tied and mouth gagged. The killer appeared to have come in through the door and the house was ransacked but her jewellery was intact, officers said. Police are questioning a school lab assistant who was close to Mehra and had allegedly borrowed Rs 1 lakh from her.


Haryana police on a special drive to protect women

To prevent rape and eve-teasing in Haryana, state police today launched a special drive.

The Director General of Police (DGP), Mr R S Dalal, said all police officers of  ranks from inspector to inspector general will visit all villages and towns under their respective jurisdictions to identify culprits, unemployed youth, vagabonds and those with the propensity to commit crimes. Apart from preparing reports and lists, action will be taken if needed.

Yes, I need not illustrate further how headlines such as these are commonplace in newspapers and in red tickers appearing in news channels.  We may certainly recall having heard from the elderly that “the world is a dangerous place” but to this extent; perhaps that was something we had never fathomed. It goes without saying that hazards in life do not distinguish between a man and a woman. True, but the perils that lurk behind the shadows to gobble down a girl are far too many to even mention.

Haryana’s rape spate claims four more victims
The unending spate of crimes against women in Haryana has claimed four more victims. While a gangrape has been reported from Gohana in Sonepat district, a minor girl was the victim in Rohtak town on Wednesday, another was allegedly raped by a neighbour in Gharaunda town in Karnal and yet another case of rape of a mentally challenged woman came to light from Narwana in Jind.

Gary Glitter raped a girl of 13 in Sir Jimmy Savile’s BBC dressing room, it was claimed last night.

The attack in the 1970s allegedly took place as Savile was himself groping a 14-year-old in the same room.




Indian found guilty of rape in Australia

An Indian taxi driver in Australia has been found guilty of raping a woman student who was in an inebriated state. 

The court found Sunveer Jassar, 28, guilty of raping an intoxicated female student in the back of his cab after driving her to an isolated area in Brisbane’s city centre early last year, the reported.



Infant’s kin held for rape

Police arrested a relative of the 18-month girl, who was raped and assaulted on the footpath near Park Street on September 26. Chandan Mallick (28), the maternal uncle of the infant’s father, was picked by the police on Wednesday night. Chandan has reportedly confessed to the police of committing the crime. The girl was discovered lying in a pool of blood on Royd Street in the wee hours of September 26. Medical tests revealed that she was brutally raped and tortured. “It was an important and special case since the victim was an infant.



Woman from Karnataka raped in AP, lover stabbed


Unidentified persons raped a woman at Kaigal waterfalls in Baireddyplalle mandal of Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.

The woman was on a visit to the popular tourist spot with her lover when the incident occurred.



Woman raped by realty agents in car


A 35-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by three property dealers in Tronica City off state highway 57 in Ghaziabad on Tuesday evening. Police said that she had gone to Gurgaon to meet the two property dealers who took her to Loni to show some flats in their Scorpio car where the third accused joined them. Two of the three accused have been taken in custody.



Women cops impart safety tips to girls

The women police have taken the initiative to impart self safety tips to girls studying in colleges and schools of the city. The women cops have also installed ‘posters and wall paintings at girls’ colleges and schools appealing them to dial the given phone number if facing any problem.
