Big cities have worst sex ratios in country
NEW DELHI: India’s towns are worse than its villages when it comes to
the child sex ratio (CSR), but its biggest cities are even worse.
Against an overall ratio of 914 girls for 1,000 boys in the age group
of 0-6 years, the urban ratio is 902 but the combined figure for
cities with a population of a million or more is just 898.

NEW DELHI: A 95-year-old woman, who was acquitted by a trial court for
burning her daughter-in-law and her infant son to death in 1996, has
been awarded a life sentence by the Delhi high court.
A division bench of Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice Sunil Gaur,
in an order made available Tuesday, said that the accused, Sumitra,
should be taken into custody, forfeiting her bail bond.
The bench relied upon the dying declaration of Meenu, her
daughter-in-law, while convicting the nonagenarian.
NE girl molested, accused on run
NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old woman was allegedly molested by a man in
Timarpur area of north Delhi on Monday night. The accused, however,
escaped after the incident and has not been identified yet. The victim
is a resident of Gandhi Vihar area. She is from the north east and
belongs to Naga community, said police.
Be aware of rights, women heading to Gulf warned
HYDERABAD: Despite reports of large scale exploitation, women from
poor families continue to head towards the Gulf nations in search of
jobs, hopeful of a better future. Hundreds of unskilled women from the
state migrate to these nations every year, landing themselves in
situations where they are left vulnerable to physical and mental
abuse. In the last six months alone, 14 women were brought back from
various parts of the Gulf to the state.

PANCHKULA: A 24-year-old resident of Bhainsa Tibba village in Mansa
Devi Complex, Pooja, was found murdered near an under-construction
shop in the early hours of Wednesday. Passersby saw the body and
informed police. The girl worked in a factory at Baddi and was
allegedly at home till 10pm last night. The motive of the murder is
yet to be ascertained.
