1. Women on WR want CCTV cams in trains
MUMBAI: Women commuters on the Western Line want Big Brother to keep an eye on them even inside coaches. This was revealed in a survey conducted by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) where women travelers were asked to list what they found lacking in terms of security on the suburban section. Apart from demanding closed-circuit cameras inside coaches, commuters have asked for an uncomplicated helpline number and prohibiting teenage boys from entering ladies compartments.
2. ‘Rape victim’s sexual history not relevant’
In a significant move, the state government has directed government doctors who conduct medical examinations of rape victims to do away with the practice of noting whether the victim is habituated to sexual intercourse. The move is aimed at extending sensitive treatment to victims of rape
and sexual assault and will be reflected in the manual referred to by doctors while examining victims.
3. Hubby disowns, girl sent back to parents
BANGALORE: A habeas corpus petition filed in the Karnataka high court by a man from Veerappa Reddy Layout in Bangalore seeking the production of his daughter has ended on a happy note. The girl was studying II year engineering in a Tamil Nadu college and had eloped with an Andhra Pradesh man who claimed to have married her. Now the girl’s custody has been restored to her parents.
4. Murder accused rapes 14-year-old orphan
NAGPUR: A 14-year-old orphan was allegedly raped by a murder accused, Sunil Yadav, at Gawlipura, Gittikhadan on Tuesday. Since Gittikhadan police reportedly delayed the complaint, residents along with
corporator Shashikalabai Wade thronged police station. Cops registered the case after confirming medical reports. Yadav, with two murder offences against him, had once raped and murdered a woman in the same locality.
5. Lovebirds shot at by girl’s relatives
LUCKNOW: A youth and his girlfriend were shot at allegedly by the relatives of the girl when they were about to board a passenger train back to their home town Hardoi at platform no. 2 of Alamnagar railway
station on Wednesday morning. The relatives opposed their relationship. However, GRP said that the case appeared to be suspicious and stage-managed.
6. Man sets wife ablaze for dowry
HUBLI: Ramesh Barker, a KSRTC driver, allegedly set his wife ablaze at his residence in Ganesh Colony near Navnagar in wee hours of Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Manjula alias Vidya
Barker (28). Police sources said that the accused was pestering his wife to bring money from her parents to buy a site. This led to frequent quarrels between the couple.
7. 9-yr-old girl was missing, found dead
NEW DELHI: A nine-year-oldchild was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a park in Mayapuri in west Delhi on Wednesday. The child was reported missing by her parents two days ago. Preliminary
investigations suggested that the victim was smothered to death, said cops. Whiskey bottles were found beside the body and the child appeared to have been brutally attacked, said sources adding that a
part of the victim’s dress was also stuffed in her mouth.
