1] Jind gang rape victim’s family vacates rented house
ROHTAK: The family of gang rape victim in Pillu Khera town of Jind
district vacated the rented accommodation on Monday, after the railway
issued strict directions to its employees not to rent out the official
premises to outsiders.
The woman, along with her husband and a six years old daughter, moved
out of the railway colony, where they had been living in a rented
accommodation let out by station superintendent Raghubir Singh about
two months ago.
2] ‘Save girl child’ campaign dons folk flavour in Shimla
SHIMLA: Giving a fresh momentum to save the girl child campaign, over
2,000 girls, gathered here on a single platform from different parts
of India and neighbouring Bangladesh, on Monday. Dressed in colourful
traditional attires, they presented various folk dances which sent out
a single message – shun the bias against girl child. They performed to
the beats of a single instrument, the traditional dhol, on the
historic Ridge in the morning.
Clarifying that Bangladesh did not have to deal with the problem of
female foeticide, Munjarin Abony from Cambrian School and College,
Dhaka, said, “It has been an exhilarating experience, to participate
for a cause to empower women and prevent their deaths in the womb. And
what could have been a better way to celebrate womanhood, than dance.”
3] Woman’s murder on busy highway puzzles police
PALWAL: The murder of a 38-year-old housewife from Mayur Vihar Phase
III in east Delhi, on the busy Delhi-Faridabad-Agra national highway
(NH-2), by a gang of criminals has shaken both commuters and cops. It
is said that this road never sleeps. Yet, according to the husband of
the victim, his wife was killed a few hundred metres from the highway
between 10:30pm and 11pm even as the SP was conducting a special
patrol with nakas and a flying PCR squad. The cops are examining the
role of Mewati gangs.
4] IAS officer arrested for attempt to rape
LUCKNOW: An IAS officer was arrested at Charbagh railway station here
on Monday for allegedly attempting to rape and intimidate a young IT
professional in the AC II compartment of Delhi-Lucknow Mail on Sunday
night. The UP government immediately suspended the officer, Shashi
Bhusan Lal Susheel, who is posted as special secretary (technical
education). A railway magistrate later sent him to jail under judicial
remand for 14 days.
5] Dalit woman sarpanch assaulted in Haryana
CHANDIGARH: A 37-year-old dalit woman sarpanch was assaulted on Sunday
when she was presiding over a meeting to broker peace between two
groups fighting over distribution of land for poor families at
Aambwalan village in Haryana’s Yamunanagar district.
The sarpanch, Rajrani, and two other villagers were seriously injured
in the attack and were admitted to a government hospital.
Yamunanagar SP Mitesh Jain said the injured were not in a position to
give a statement in this regard. “The police will take further action
once the injured people give their statements,” Jain added.
