Trafficking of Girls and Women
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT 4 |
| ¨ Human trafficking follows arms and narcotics trade as the world’s third most lucrative illicit business.
¨ 39.6 % of victims held family members responsible for their predicament. ¨ Every day, about 200 girls and women in India enter prostitution, 80% of them against their will. ¨ It is estimated that more than 1 million girls and women are currently trapped in brothels in India. ¨ Where infanticide and foeticide have distorted the sex ratio, there emerges an opportunity for trafficking of women from other areas. Violence against women in one place thus has consequences for everyone. |
